The term vanguard refers to the leading part of an advancing military formation. It has a number of functions, including seeking out and securing ground in advance of the main force.
The Black Vanguard is the leading part of an advancing force against racism and racial inequities suffered by the Black community. It is the movement of a people powered by solidarity of our allies. Our collective voice is manifold and diverse, but it is also harmonious.
We are not a monolith: we are a union. We come from various backgrounds and economic classes. We may have different religions and philosophies. But we all have a common desire to see racism erradicated. In America, a country that has yet to reconcile its issues with racial injustice, we know that liberty and equitable treatment are our birthrights, and we are steadfast and united in our determination to make sure those rights are never again denied to anyone.

The Alliance amplifies the efforts of racial justice and serves as the engine of the vehicle of change.
